ICM Final Project Proposal

There’s nothing more dangerous than someone who wants to make the world a better place.”

Boy with Gun

Title of Project: War Made Out of Flowers

Project Summary: This project is more of an interactive interpretation of the street graffiti artist Banksy’s piece “Boy with Gun.” It adds mobility and sound to a powerful image created by an artist who wants us to understand and engage with his artwork.

Project Description: I have great interest in creating artwork with political statements behind them. I believe that Banksy has done a great job doing just that with his art all around the world. For that reason, I would like to expand on my midterm project (see screenshot below and link to the midterm project):

I would like to continue to play with the animation and sprite arrays. As I have mentioned before, I will be using photoshop to manipulate the current images in the original picture

I will be using photoshop once again to create separate images for different objects. Most likely I will be creating an object array that will store multiple objects and have them pass through the same function. I would like to create an instance where you see the flowers, butterflies, and grass float from the wall into the entire screen.

Each image will probably float at the same speed and also carry a message. If you roll over the image, a message will show up or a line from a piece of music will play.

I am trying to decide if I should have lines from Edwin Starr’s song “WAR”:

OR

I can connect to the Twitter API and filter for just tweets that mention WAR.

All and all, I should be playing with strings more and maybe storing tweets or lines of music into an array. It might be more interesting to have different lines of the song played when you roll over a different shape that is floating.

The figure of the boy will also be the main centerpiece of the project. I am still trying to figure out the best way to animate him and still use photoshop mostly to create multiple images of him to create a sprite. I am thinking he can be looking at the flowers floating all around him. So maybe his head can be controlled by the mouse movement.

The complete project will show how this young boy and the viewer is amazed by the imagery of a war that should be all about flowers, sunshine, bright colors.
